Almost amazed at how people can make such amazing musioc in famitrack XD. Really outstanding piece this :). I'm a huge fan of your retro style, and I loved the effects you use. The synths are really good sounding for the most part, and the structure and tempo changes were awesome :D.

One thing I want to pick on though is that the saw wave bass you use throughout the track kinda muds up the mix a bit. Try cutting the very lowest frequencies,(around 5-70hz maybe?) to give the bass a cleaner sound without it loosing its harsh sound.

Great job with this :). Keep it up :D!

you know, I saw that this track had a low rating and no downloads at all, so I expected it too be bad, but I actually really like this. Loved the guitar parts, and even though you don't have a perfect voice, it still does add a bit of "flavour" to the track with that voice. Kinda sounds like the guy who'll just sup on the corner of the street and just sing his heart out :).
Really liked the lyrics as well :D.

Thanks a bunch, I'm really glad you enjoyed it! I actually recently tried street performing/busking for the first time, I was surprised by how fun it was, it could very easily become my thing.

As Arsonist said, this is really the definition of an epic piece :). The instruments mix very well together, and this almost sounds like it was recorded live.
One thing I want to point out though, is that the mixing of each individual instrument could have been done better to make them simply sound a bit better. Especially the horns had some frequencies that really anoyed my ears. Try listening to the instruments and identify the frequencies that sound good and the ones that sound bad, and cut or lower the bad frequencies.

Thanks again for your review! I'll keep the frequency issues in mind on future mixes.

You definetly got what it takes to make music like X9. Reallyliked ther sound of this :D
Wish the ynths were a tiny bit louder at their peak to make the buildup more epic. You should really try making a full length track with this style :).

Ps. Subtracted a star mainly because it's too short to give 5 stars.

Thanks for the review! I'll keep that in mind! :)

Another pretty good track :D. Nice melody :). The saw bass at 0:16 is a bit plain. Maybe layer it with a sine wave to give it a bit more bassy feeling.
The melodies are absolutely terrific in this. Had me bopping my head all the way through. Some minor mixing issues, but great structure, and some really great ideas in this. I've reviewed quite a few of your tracks, and you definetly deserve a follow for this one :D.
5 stars.

I'm really glad you enjoy my tracks and thanks for following :3

Yet another great track poinl :). Loved the intro, loved the synths, but most of all I absolutely loved the melodies :D. So incredibly soothing. The structure is great as well. Wish there were some minor wobbles here and there, but that's just me.
Great track yet again :D.

This track was great at times, and some times not so great. Taking the entire song into account however, I think this really is a great track. Some mixing issues at times, mainly with the lower frequencies of the bass, and also the snare that seemed to overpower everything else in the track.
The structure however is great. I loved how you managed to surprise me three times, and this one song is almost like three songs combined and mixed gently into one :). I love it! loved the part around 06:00 with the distortion. Wish that you had added a rapid and epic guitar riff at that point, but that's only about preferences :).

Great track :). Have to subtract a star because of the mixing, but keep up the good work :D

Retro!!! I've missed that sound for a while XD. Really liked the sounding of this. The mix sounds pretty tight most of the time, and the melody is cool though it sounds a bit stale. Try varying the length of the notes a bit in your melodies.
I really liked the synths you used, though the bass you use throughout the track isn't really optimally mixed in the track. Try to give it it's own space in the Eq by lowering or cutting the frequencies where the bass stands the most out from the pads in particular. I would also have added a tiny winy bit of reverb to it, just to give it a bit of a spacey feeling, but that's just about preferences.

When I said that the mix sounds tight almost all the time, the exception is when the crash and sweeps hits like the one around 1:30. The entire track ducks under it and makes it sound unprofessional. Try cutting some of the lowest frequencies from your crash(maybe cut around 100hz?). You want to keep the big impact sound of the crash, but still cut the frequencies that makes the mix sound muddy. Just remember: Eq EVERYTHING. The only time you don't want to eq is when you think an effect sounds perfect as it is.

Overall a pretty solid track. Loved the retro feel of it, and some really clever ideas in this :D.
4 stars.

Thanks for the good advices

Sounds cool, but I'm not really a huge fan of Garage band as I can never know if this was just put together using the loops GB gives your or if it really was made from scratch, I'll still review it like it's made from scratch though.
I think it's a cool track, but it doesn't really sound like a full song at all. Add some percussion, some bass, different melody layers etc. to really give the listener a full music experience. As it is now it only sounds like a single midi loop really.

Knew from the first note that I was going to love this one and I absolutely did :). Great melodies, great structure, and great sounding synths :D. My only complaint is that the strings that comes in at 0:15 have some clashing frequencies with the piano. Almost sounds it's ducking under the piano if you know what I mean. Maybe try cutting some of the lower frequencies from the strings and slightly boost the higher ones?

There's also a problem with the eq-ing with the kick that comes in at around 1:10. Doesn't really sound eq'ed at all really. Too many high frequencies that doesn't only clash with the other synths, but that kind of kick doesn't really sound to good in headphones with too many high frequencies.

I can also here some clipping at the loudest parts of the track. Make sure you level the track so that the volume doesn't go over 0db. Leveling really makes or breaks a track like this.

To sum it up, I would say that the main problem with this track is the mixing really, especially the eq-ing, but also the leveling. I would advise to look into eq'ing a bit more, and also make sure that you are aware of your volume levels while producing a track.

Everything else in the track was absolutly fanstastic though :).

Dylnmatrix responds:

Yeah, this song was a bit of a problem child in the mix/master. I'm going to be going back into it and touch it up, especially before releasing the EP, so hopefully I can fix the mixing issues. I'll also keep in mind the EQ issues you mentioned. The kick is EQed to have both the low and high ends boosted a bit, but I think I forgot to bring those back down when mastering, as the kicks sound great without Ozone on. I'm still getting the hang of the whole mastering thing and tend to miss things, especially when we don't send it to other producers to get fresh ears hearing it and telling us which direction to go, which we remembered to do for our newest track, Unsustainable.

But other than that, I'm glad you liked the track! I'm extremely proud with this melody and progression, as it came on a whim and I kept the original version I wrote, not changing it at all throughout the time we worked on the project.

Thanks for the review, man!

I make Dance and stuffz. EctiBot is a mix of Ecti, and Bot. Profile pic made by solwings.newgrounds.com :D!
